It’s fun to have trendy clothing pieces versus your classic wardrobe staples. A challenge of having more trendy items than basic, classic pieces is that it’s harder to mix and match trendy pieces to create several ensembles.
For example, if you bought a floral print blouse this year, don’t be surprised if you have a hard time matching it with other items of clothing in your closet! It can be so disheartening when a fashion shelf life has expired before you get to wear it. Do not be discouraged, though! Let’s go back to the basics for a moment.
Below are a few basic core pieces that should be in your wardrobe:
- Black dress
- White button up blouse
- Jeans – dark wash
- White T-shirt
- Black pants
- White or black sweater
- Denim jacket
Now, once you have some basic pieces in your closet, it’s okay to buy trendy pieces from time to time. If you have your basics, then you will always have something to wear. Once you have a solid foundation, buy trends that fit your style. For example, think of how many different versions bohemian wear there are. Ask yourself what will be a trend you can see yourself wearing more than once.
Buy the fit and style that best fits your image (example; look for simple lines if you have a classic image) and that way it’ll have a future in your closet (and on you!) after the season has faded.
Having at least the basic essentials of a classic, core wardrobe will always give you an edge-up to “Never Say, I Have Nothing to Wear”, Again!
